About Beijing Capital International Airport
Beijing Capital International Airport, the international airport of China's capital city has one of the largest airport passenger terminals in the world, and the busiest in China. The vast international terminal 3 was built for the Olympic games and has many dining and shopping options. Terminal 3 is on the opposite side of the airport from the older domestic flight terminal, which is reached by shuttle bus. Shuttle trains take passengers from arrival gates to baggage claim areas. Some domestic flights park away from the terminal, with passengers boarding shuttle buses to the aircraft.
Showers for travelers are available at Beijing Capital airport, and so are internet connections, restaurant and fast food dining. With designer and duty free shops for international travelers at terminal 3, there is also a small hotel near the international departure gates which can be rented overnight or by the hour.
There are several hotels around the Capital Airport boundary, and downtown Beijing is about 40 minutes away on a new expressway. Beijing Capital Airport opened in 1958 about 20 miles northeast of downtown Beijing, and today it's connected to the city by subway and express buses, plus taxi service. Capital airport has 3 runways and is home base to Air China and hub of China Southern.
